Collaborating with Artificial Intelligence

Twice this past week, I’ve received entreaty out of the blue to collaborate on an AI-powered article. I was surprised that I was “one of a few experts invited to add” my expertise on the topics of communicating with event attendees, and on coping with creative blocks in public relations to an article written by Artificial Intelligence..

Wait! What? I’m supposed to help Artificial Intelligence write an article? I could have sworn it’s supposed to work the other way around.

And  I didn’t even realize I’ve ever had to cope with a creative block on writing press releases. This was news to me.

The more I think about this invitation, the more I’ve wondered if anyone would feel flattered to be one of “the few experts” selected to collaborate, pro bono, with AI?

I wonder….. How does artificial intelligence even determine on which subjects we’re experts? I’m almost afraid to ask. Does it cull through our resumes or our online profiles? Maybe it uses ChatGPT to converse with our employers or loved ones to discover what they perceive as our “strengths.”

I know a few people who might be embarrassed if certain “talents” ever got out. Nobody really wants the world to know they can finish off a gallon of ice cream in one sitting, go a week without taking a shower, or that they know every Sesame Street song by heart.

I find that I’m actually a little insulted by the invitation. As if I would help AI write articles in the pursuit of teaching it to take over someone’s job, as many fear.

On the other hand, I (and probably a lot of other people) would be happy to collaborate with AI on  articles on the topics of lawncare, housecleaning, filing taxes, and changing diapers, if Artificial Intelligence would actually take over those jobs.
